‘KC made me understand myself more’ -- Richard
THE pairing of Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion in For the First Time evokes fond memories of Philippine movies’ enduring loveteams.
Think of Carmen Rosales and Rogelio de la Rosa, Tita Duran and Pancho Magalona, Gloria Romero and Luis Gonzales, Nida Blanca and Nestor de Villa of the ’40s and ’50s. Of Susan Roces and Eddie Gutierrez (and later Fernando Poe Jr.), Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III, Vilma Santos and Edgar Mortiz (and later Christopher de Leon), Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion, Maricel Soriano and William Martinez of the ’60s and later decades.
What a beautiful and wholesome tandem Richard and KC make, a welcome refreshing sight in an otherwise bleak scenery. They blend without trying to.
KC says, “We have many things in common. We are both adventurous, unafraid to try new things. We are both aggressive and passionate, not stopping unless we reach our goals.”
Richard agrees, adding, “I want to thank KC for making me understand myself more.”
It helped that Richard and KC were friends – not for a very long time – before they shot For the First Time in Santorini, Greece, where they really got close. Close, as in, sweethearts?
“In Santorini, we actually discovered a lot about each other, pero sa amin na lang ’yon. I knew that KC could act, but I didn’t realize how good an actress she is until I worked with her,” says Richard.
In the film, Richard and KC play opposite characters. He’s rich and carefree, she’s prude and serious. But they overcome differences and obstacles in the name of love.
Both exude class, educated in the best schools and well traveled. But they appeal to all classes, from A to D, and all ages, from kids to teeners to adults. Richard got the best features and traits of his parents, Eddie and Annabelle. And KC of Sharon and Gabby.
That’s why they are referred to as showbiz’s “New Royal Love Team.” Watch them claim their thrones any day soon.
For the First Time is directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal and produced by Star Cinema. It is the first team-up of Richard and KC, actually her first movie, and it opens today in theaters nationwide. RC
