Ready to Make a Bang!

Article posted July 10, 2008

“Boom, boom, boom!” goes the official theme song of GMA’s newest sci-fi romance, “Codename: Asero.” And ready to make a big bang it is, especially with the visual extravaganza it presented during its press conference last July 9, at the AFP Theater. If the actual series is anything like their sneak peek, then we’re in a for a treat! Text by Jillian Q. Gatcheco. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.

The main lobby leading to the theater was transformed into a laboratory with high-tech gadgets and TV screens displaying slideshows of the cast’s Dubai trip. Some pictures included were Richard Gutierrez and Heart Evangelista posing with a camel, the directors hard at work, and some members of the production team setting up.

After dinner, which was served at the lobby, everyone proceeded to the main theater for the grand launch. Michael V, who’s a nutty inventor in the series, opened the program by introducing his latest invention, which backfired via a big explosion. Suddenly, the girls of Asero appeared onstage together with Janno Gibbs, who sang the official theme song. Beauties like Chynna Ortaleza, Rhian Ramos, Ehra Madrigal, Bubbles Paraiso, Chariz Solomon, Sheree, Ysa Villar, Jenny Miller, and Joanne Quintas sashayed to the music and strutted their stuff onstage.

starsThen of course there was Heart Evangelista, who was a vision in her glittery outfit as she belly-danced like a pro and proved that she hasn’t lost her spark despite a long showbiz hiatus. A bit of role playing happened after the dance: military men kidnapped Heart and as she shouted for help, the entire back wall of the stage opened up, revealing a tank (yes, a military tank!) and the star of the show, Richard Gutierrez.

Gunshots followed as Richard fought the men holding Heart captive, and he eventually saved the damsel in distress. They share a sweet embrace as the crowd shouts, “Kiss! Kiss!” but they leave everyone hanging as they run off to leave the stage holding hands.

As if this production number wasn’t enough, there was also the music video, where more reasons to watch Asero were shown. Just seeing the Dubai scenes is enough to lure anyone to watch the pilot week, and we’re pretty sure that once you’re past that step, you’ll be addicted to the show already!

starsOther cast members who were there were Marky Cielo, Rocky Gutierrez, Elvis Gutierrez, and course, Richard Gomez. Unfortunately, Francine Prieto wasn’t able to make it to the press con, although she’ll be playing Bodjie X’s (Michael V) sexy assistant.

Primetime King Richard Gutierrez closed the program by giving thanks. “I just want to say that I’m very, very proud of this show. Pinapasalamatan ko po ang GMA for giving me the opportunity to give my best, and I want to thank of course everyone behind the scenes—direk Mark Reyes, direk Mike Tuviera, the writers, and the creative, prod, and tech, teams. Yung ginawa namin sa Dubai, napakahirap, pero lahat nakangiti kasi masaya kami at nage-enjoy kami. Isa itong malaking challenge for all for us, but with the team and cast members, I’m confident na magagawan namin ng paraan ito.”

Don’t miss Codename: Asero’s premiere on July 14, only on GMA Telebabad!
